About:
My name is Byron Franklin. Born in Louisiana, but I've been living in Houston over half my life. I am a professional drone pilot, husband, father of 3 and the founder of OneShot Drone Services. I have been involved in photography since 2011 but my passion for flying drones started in 2014 when I purchased a small drone as a Christmas present for my son. After spending months of flying the drone, it started to become a hobby of mine. Shortly thereafter, a close friend introduced me to drone photography. Although I was intrigued I did not want to shell out close to $1000 for a drone as a hobby. After months of watching YouTube reviews and learning about the various brands I bought my first DJI drone. Every time I went out I would find some time to fly. Whether it was a grocery store run, a site I seen after coming from church or stopping somewhere after work. I felt obsessed with seeing and sharing every view from the aerial side. As a Controls Engineer, I have worked in many industries throughout my career. I’ve been able to start-up and commission oil rigs in Dubai and launch entire Amazon facilities. I've traveled to Egypt, Singapore, Malaysia, Tokyo, and Amsterdam to name a few places. The views I've been able to witness were breath-taking and heart-warming. Working off-shore a lot offered me the opportunity to see views from helicopters but they were never still images I could share. Even when I did take photos with my phone, I knew there was a better angle I could've gotten with my drone. I started taking photos and documenting life events, including my world travels, while working in the various industries. The joy I found in capturing moments inspired me to continue pursuing photography as a hobby and a way to preserve memories for myself and his loved ones. Photography allows me to slow down and observe the beauty in everyday life that we often miss. This was also a way to capture something so beautiful and unexplainable that only a photo taken would come close to sharing the experience that I had when I took it. Every time I fly a drone or see someone flying a drone it takes me back to being a kid not having a care in the world. Being able to share precious moments that I've captured for family, and friends has been priceless. There was never a thought in my mind that I could fly drones for a living, until a relative advised me to investigate getting my part 107 to provide services to individuals. After about 140 hours or more of flying as a hobby I took to YouTube and Google to find answers. I found study material and an online course to guide me through passing the exam. After a few weeks of studying and gaining confidence in aerial knowledge, I scheduled my part 107 exam and passed. After passing, I focused on building my portfolio and networking to gain exposure. Even though I would charge for smaller jobs and a few photos and video here and there I never thought of making a true business out of it. Until one day with my home inspector. He wasn't capable of accessing the roof to complete the inspection. I ask him if video or photos with a drone would work. That started a conversation I did not know would be so impactful for me. He gave me his story about studying for the part 107 and how he didn't know many people that provided drone service. Before the conversation was over, I had planned in my mind to become a solution for a problem that I felt exist. In many cases this it what engineering is all about. Finding a problem and coming up with a solution for said problem. So my journey began. I founded OneShot Drone Services with the mission of providing affordable drone photography, videography and other services for businesses and individuals. There seemed to be a gap in the market for an accessible drone service that could cater to small businesses and individuals, not just large corporations. OneShot prides itself on delivering high-quality aerial footage from an unique perspective, whether for personal or commercial use. We offer a range of pricing options to suit different needs and budgets, as I believe everyone should have access to drone technology's capabilities. I aim to capture the perfect shot the first time, hence the name "OneShot." My goal is to help clients tell their stories from new and impactful angles through the power of aerial photography and videography.
