About:
I would have never guessed that my love for music would lead me to being a drone pilot. Ten years ago, I left Texas and moved to the Bay area of California to continue my career as a videographer, shooting music videos and weddings. In that time, I was blessed to work with many up and coming and established artists. I’ve always had a love and passion for technology, but drones were not in my scope until about 6 years ago. While helping with a shoot, another videographer pulled out his Dji Phantom. I had never seen a drone in person, and I was immediately fascinated. Seeing the world around me from an aerial view won my heart. That night I started researching drones immediately. My starter drone was an Autel Robotics X Star, but when Dji released the Mavic Pro I had to have it. Despite my growing interest in drones and their potential to enhance my craft I was very reluctant to obtain my pilot’s license. The Part 107 test seemed daunting, and I questioned whether it was truly necessary to obtain a license in order to make money with my drone. However, I came to understand the importance of adhering to legal requirements and ensuring the safety of both clients and the general public. With newfound determination, I embarked on a mission to study for the Part 107 test. Recognizing the wealth of knowledge available on YouTube, I dedicated two months to learning and absorbing crucial information. Through countless hours of studying tutorials, regulations, and best practices, I honed my understanding of drone operations, airspace rules, and safety protocols. After all my studying I passed with a 72, I was just so happy to obtain a passing grade. A few years later I feel that getting my license was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Shortly after obtaining my license, I was hired by a robotics company as a security drone pilot which changed the trajectory of my life immensely.
