Drone Hero Profiles: Douglas Thron

Douglas Thron is the foremost "Drone Hero" for rescuing animals from natural disasters such as fires, floods, and hurricanes.

One of Thron's most enduring rescue missions was in 2020, when he sought out and saved dozens of koalas threatened by an Australian wildfire that took out thousands of acres of habitat.

A cinematographer currently based out of Sydney, Australia; Miami, Florida; and Los Angeles, California, Thron devised—and pioneered—the use of infrared drones, zoom lenses, and spotlights to locate animals in distress and direct rescue efforts.

Drones, obviously, are deployed for so many good things, but you have to love a drone pilot who commits to saving animals all over the world. Hero.
