Law-Tech Connect was born from a simple observation: the disconnect between legal and technical professionals in the UxS space. Event organizer Dawn Zoldi, a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and former military lawyer (CEO of <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.p3techconsulting.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">P3 Tech Consulting</a> and Publisher at <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://autonomyglobal.co/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Autonomy Global</a>) explained, &ldquo;I noticed that lawyers and policymakers discussed regulations in isolation, while techology leaders focused solely on their tech. I recognized a need to bridge this gap. So, I created Law-Tech Connect to bring these two worlds together.&rdquo;
<h5>From Humble Beginnings to Industry Staple</h5>
Since its inception in Orlando in 2022, Law-Tech Connect has experienced remarkable growth. What started as a novel concept has quickly become a must-attend event for industry professionals. For the past several years, the workshop has consistently drawn standing-room only crowds. The event's success as the go-to educational platform for UxS legal and regulatory insights hasn't gone unnoticed. The Drone Girl, a respected industry publication, has recognized Law-Tech Connect as <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.thedronegirl.com/2025/01/30/2025-drone-events/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">one of the top drone conferences</a>, expos, races, and meetups of the year.
<h5>Connecting Dots and People: Networking at Its Finest</h5>
Law-Tech Connect is all about connections.
&ldquo;We call it Law-Tech Connect, not just because we're connecting law and technology,&rdquo; Zoldi said, &ldquo;but also because we're connecting everybody together.&rdquo;
The event kicks off with a pre-workshop networking social on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the Social Beer Garden in Houston. From 7-9 pm CT, attendees can mingle with industry peers and speakers in a relaxed setting. This networking opportunity sets the stage for the main event by creating an atmosphere of collaboration and idea-sharing that carries through the entire workshop.

<h5>A Day of Unparalleled Insights</h5>
The main workshop takes place on Monday, May 19, 2025, at the George Bush Convention Center in Houston, Texas, co-located with <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://xponential.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AUVSI&rsquo;s XPONENTIAL</a>. <h5>Navigating Government Contracts and Energy Sector Challenges</h5>
The day will begin with a panel titled "Let's Make a Deal: The Rules for Landing Government Autonomy Contracts." Moderated by Michael Bower from Esi, this session features experts like Tom Swoyer from GrandSKY, who brings invaluable experience in securing government contracts.
"We're really excited to be able to talk about the nuts and bolts of the contracting process and share some of our experience and lessons learned," Swoyer shared during the preview panel.
Following this, attendees will dive into "Big, Big Energy: The Virtuous Circle of Compliance and Autonomy in the Energy Sector." Sean Guerre from the EDRC will moderate this discussion. It will explore how uncrewed systems are revolutionizing compliance and operations in the energy industry.
"We're going to be expanding on the diverse regulatory challenges at the state level versus local versus federal,&rdquo; Guerre explained. &ldquo;Depending on the type of energy asset that you're operating, you're going to have a different set of compliance and regulatory requirements. This is definitely not a panel that's discussing what-ifs and possibilities. These are things that are actually impacting the industry and showcasing to all the stakeholders&mdash;asset owner operators, service companies, solution providers&mdash;how they can get involved.&rdquo;
<h5>Over the Horizon Operational Challenges and State-Level Innovations</h5>
The two other morning sessions promise equally compelling content. One highlight includes the "Future Proofing for Over the Horizon Operational Challenges" panel. This panel dives into the threat spectrum observed on battlefields, particularly emphasizing the conflict in Ukraine, and explores how these threats translate to businesses.

Discussions will include topics such as spoofing, jamming, and cybersecurity concerns and how these issues are associated with legal considerations. The panel will feature Brett Feddersen from D-Fend Solutions, discussing counter-UAS strategies, Evan Wolf from Crowell &amp; Moring, offering insights into cyber law and security, Brian Sardoch from OrqaFPV and Frasier Kitchell from KEF Robotics, who bring firsthand experience from the field in Ukraine. Evan Frankenberg, CEO of Echodyne will also contribute his expertise on radar technology and airspace awareness.
Attendees can also look forward to the "State of the States: Volume Two" panel, moderated by Erin Roesler from the NPUASTS. This session will explore how different states are approaching uncrewed systems integration and the economic opportunities they present.
"States recognize that there are huge economic opportunities that can be seized by leveraging drones and UAS technologies," Roesler noted. "We're going to take a lead in doing that because we as a state see the benefits." So do others. This panel will have reps from New Jersey (can you say &ldquo;Dronegate&rdquo;?), Nevada, Massachusetts and Michigan.

Award-winning filmmaker Chris Tangey from Australia is a multiple-time AZDroneFest winner in the Landscape and Narrative categories with his film Firehawk. Similarly, Danny McGee has won three awards in the FPV and Landscape categories for his incredible film capturing the volcanic eruption in Iceland. Phoenix-based drone pilot and filmmaker Saunders Staley from Flying Robot has won awards every year since the festival&rsquo;s inception&mdash;earning five awards across four different categories. Not only is Saunders the most decorated filmmaker in AZDroneFest history, but he also volunteers each year to speak on various panels and demonstrate his incredible drones in action.
The festival&rsquo;s New Drone Pilot category is specifically designed to recognize pilots with a year or less of experience flying, providing emerging creators with an opportunity to be celebrated for their work. One inspiring example is Louisa Royer, who won the 2023 Best New Drone Pilot Award and subsequently became the Guinness Book of World Records&rsquo; youngest drone videographer (female) at the age of 8 years and 258 days. Louisa&rsquo;s passion for drone filmmaking started young, as she shared: &ldquo;I asked for a drone as a gift because I love science, and it seemed like a fun way to explore the world from a different viewpoint."

The Vertical Flight Society (VFS) has been a leader in the advancement of the electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) revolution since it held the word&rsquo;s first conference on the topic in 2014. VFS is holding its 11th Annual eVTOL Symposium in Phoenix, Arizona, on Feb. 4&ndash;6 &mdash; part of the VFS Transformative Vertical Flight (TVF) 2025 conference &mdash; focusing on the promise, progress and challenges of eVTOL aircraft, with more than 75 speakers from leading aircraft and technology developers, suppliers and government agencies.
VFS is the world&rsquo;s leading non-profit organization working to advance vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) technology and advanced air mobility (AAM) applications, including battery-electric, hybrid-electric and hydrogen-electric propulsion for electric short takeoff and landing (eSTOL) and electric conventional takeoff and landing (eCTOL) applications.

TVF 2025 is preceded on Feb. 3 by its Short Course on Electric VTOL Design and followed by an open house of Honeywell&rsquo;s flight center on Friday, Feb. 7, providing TVF 2025 attendees with a tour of its Boeing 757 and Leonardo AW139, and showcase the company's AAM technologies. The seventh annual short course &mdash; taught by eVTOL pioneer Dr. James Wang, who invented and designed the AgustaWestland Project Zero, the world&rsquo;s first all-electric VTOL technology demonstrator aircraft in 2011 has had a major impact in the development of today&rsquo;s eVTOL leaders and workforce.
TVF 2025 is the world&rsquo;s longest running conference on eVTOL aircraft and will provide comprehensive updates and insights into this exciting new sector of the global aerospace industry. TVF 2025 in Detail
TVF 2025 features a full day opening plenary session with more than 15 leaders from industry, academia and government addressing developments in both autonomous VTOL and electric VTOL aircraft. Government plenary speakers represent the US Army, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), as well as the Mayor of Phoenix. The FAA&rsquo;s Larry Fields, Acting Deputy Associate Administrator for Aviation Safety (AVS-2), is the government keynote speaker and will provide insights and updates on the agency&rsquo;s regulations for autonomous aircraft, AAM, UAS, beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations and a perspective on future plans.&nbsp;Executives and technical leaders from Honeywell, Boeing Vertical Lift, Daedalean, Near Earth Autonomy, GoAERO, Archer Aviation, Beta Technologies, Joby Aviation, Pivotal Aero and Wisk Aero, will also provide insights into their industry-leading developments in autonomous and electric aviation.&nbsp;Over the following two days, the Electric VTOL track includes talks by executives from AAM developers Elroy Air, Eve Air Mobility, Jaunt Air Mobility, MagLev Aero, Odys Aviation, Piasecki Aircraft, SkyDrive, Sora Aviation, SURVICE Engineering, Transcend Aero and Unmanned Aerospace, among others. The Autonomous VTOL track includes presentations and technical papers on research from NASA, the US Army, US Navy and leading research companies, as well as numerous universities around the world. In addition to the &ldquo;Titans of Autonomy&rdquo; session of VIP subject matter experts, technical topics include air vehicle design, autonomy and artificial intelligence (AI), simulation and testing, electric propulsion and key challenges.

The Autonomous VTOL Technical Meeting was first held in January 2005 in nearby Chandler, Arizona. The biennial meeting was originally called the &ldquo;Unmanned Rotorcraft Systems&rdquo; conference, but quickly expanded to cover micro air vehicles (MAVs), large and small UAS (sUAS), their ground stations, various levels of autonomy, and off-world uncrewed VTOL aircraft.&nbsp;TVF sponsors include Honeywell (Diamond sponsor level); BAE Systems (Platinum); Boeing, Bloomy, Dassault Syst&egrave;mes, Joby Aviation, Piasecki Aircraft, SkyDrive, Toray Advanced Composites and Unither Bioelectronics (Gold); as well as Pivotal, Phoenix Sky Harbor and Stell Engineering (Silver).
A History of Advancing VTOL and AAM
VFS began supporting the eVTOL revolution in 2013, holding the first TVF conference the next year &mdash; the world&rsquo;s first meeting of the eVTOL community. At the time, the idea of electric VTOL aircraft was greeted with widespread skepticism; since then, growing technical progress, flight demonstrations, government validation and private investment have helped reverse public perception. It is now recognized that the vertical flight market is poised for significant expansion over the next few years as eVTOL aircraft enter service that may be better suited than conventional helicopters for certain missions, such as lower operating costs, lower noise and greater design safety.As of today, the Society has cataloged more than 1,175 different electric VTOL concepts from some 450 companies and innovators on its authoritative World eVTOL Aircraft Directory at <a href="http://www.evtol.news/">www.eVTOL.news</a>. When VFS launched the site in April 2017, only a dozen eVTOL programs were known to be under development. The site currently also hosts more than 1,000 eVTOL news stories, including more than 400 in-depth articles from the Society&rsquo;sVertiflite&nbsp;magazine, the leading periodical on eVTOL and rotorcraft developments. VFS has also published its Electric VTOL News e-newsletter every two weeks since 2016.VFS was founded as the American Helicopter Society in 1943 by the visionaries of the early helicopter industry, who believed that technological cooperation and collaboration were essential to support this new type of aircraft. Today, history is repeating itself, with VFS playing a similar role helping to advance today&rsquo;s revolutionary eVTOL aircraft.VFS has been the world&rsquo;s largest technical community of engineers, technologists and specialists developing vertical flight aircraft for more than 80 years. This year marks the fourth anniversary of what has become a<a href="https://www.expouav.com/?gad_source=1&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjwzva1BhD3ARIsADQuPnX26vYLmA_ezjprqJZOXyzO3Gj3wqLF1waKF2XcU3xK9tizFzHHIOoaAh6REALw_wcB" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Commercial UAV Expo</a> (CUAV Expo) staple side-event, the <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://carahevents.carahsoft.com/Event/Register/511445-P3tech" target="_blank" rel="noopener">annual Labor Day networking happy hour</a>. We&rsquo;ll also be interviewing a string of industry professionals live from the floor again as part of our <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwa7XjWIb91rI_yRnFoDi6ZOuS3xcB2kr&amp;si=eqPoPo3krWVzbC3e" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Full Crew live event series</a>. Whether you join us in person or check us out &ldquo;on the line,&rdquo; these brews and Crews help you to grow personal and professional relationships and obtain valuable expert industry insights. The Droning Company asked me to tell you how these traditions came about and what you can expect at this year&rsquo;s Expo and beyond, so here you go!
<h5>A Sip In Time</h5>

In 2021, right after the COVID-19 pandemic (and for industry events, 2020 or &ldquo;the year that wasn&rsquo;t), many of us gathered for the first time&mdash;in a long time &mdash;at the Mirage Hotel &amp; Casino for that year&rsquo;s CUAV Expo.
Just two years into my business (<a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.p3techconsulting.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">P3 Tech Consulting</a>), and a few months after jumping into it full time, like almost everyone, I hungered for connection. I remember arriving in Vegas on Sunday and throwing out a LinkedIn post along the lines of, &ldquo;Anyone in Vegas for Commercial UAV, flash mob in the Mirage lobby bar tomorrow at 6pm,&rdquo; (or words to that effect). The response was overwhelming!
I made so many industry connections at that first &ldquo;Flash Mob Networking Event" with whom I've since collaborated on a project or two (or three). More importantly, everyone there made their own business connections, too.
Given that initial success, in year two, we moved the mob over to country western-themed Gilleys at T.I. (a casino formerly known as Treasure Island). And even more people came! That year, folks showed up fresh off of international flights including our friends from <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://hoveruav.com.au/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hover UAV</a> (Australia), <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.elsight.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elsight</a> (Israel) and for their first U.S expo appearance, <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://ideaforgetech.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IdeaForge</a> (India). And no bull, our fearless Producer, Mike Pehel (<a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.upstreem.io/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">UpStreem</a>) actually rode the mechanical bull that night.

Also in 2022, the &ldquo;flash mob&rdquo; idea expanded into socials for other events and shows. We held an awesome gathering the night before our first-ever <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.p3techconsulting.com/law-tech-connect" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Law-Tech Connect</a> (LTC) educational workshop at AUVSI&rsquo;s XPONENTIAL in Orlando. Now an integral part of LTC, we have held similar socials in Denver and San Diego. Each year, these grow.
Speaking of growing and last year, along with some friends, we fomented the first (now annual) &ldquo;no host social&rdquo; at the Hilton lobby bar at FAA Drone &amp; AAM Symposium in Baltimore. (We just held our 2nd annual last month).

Third Annual LTC Social 2024
Also in 2023, our annual CUAV Expo social marked an all time high in terms of friends and fun. Thanks to our partner and sponsor, <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.carahsoft.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Carahsoft</a>, our mob converged on Harrahs&rsquo; Carnival Court for hours on end. We rocked out to the <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.spandexnation.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Spandex Nation</a> 80s hair band well into the late hours of the night.
This year, again due to the generous support of Carahsoft, we&rsquo;ll be clinking glasses and getting to know each other better on Monday, September 2, 2024, at the <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.caesars.com/caesars-palace/things-to-do/nightlife/vista-cocktail-lounge" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vista Cocktail Lounge</a> in Caesar&rsquo;s Palace, from 5-7pm. <h5>Not Quite So Motley</h5>
After having a blast Monday night, walking the expo floor for a day or so, kicking off &ldquo;OEM, System &amp; Software Leaders&rdquo; Month on our <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.p3techconsulting.com/dawn-of-autonomy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dawn of Autonomy podcast</a> with <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://sagetech.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sagetech Avionics </a>on Wednesday morning and moderating the &ldquo;<a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.expouav.com/session/case-studies-in-energy-utilities/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Case Studies in Energy &amp; Utilities&rdquo; panel</a> that afternoon, we&rsquo;ll be once again filming our <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.p3techconsulting.com/upcomingevents" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Full Crew live</a> from the floor.
Much like the Flash Mob Networking Happy Hour, Full Crew, as an umbrella brand, and the related live streams, started organically. In 2022, we were working closely with <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://dronelife.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DroneLife</a> on our legacy podcast, &ldquo;The Dawn of Drones&rdquo; (btw The Droning Company&rsquo;s Best Podcast of 2023). That year, we had booked out the year quickly, but people continued coming to us for more podcasts. We created two technology-focused podcasts, <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.p3techconsulting.com/full-crew-and-full-tilt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Full Crew and spin-off Full TILT </a><a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.p3techconsulting.com/full-crew-and-full-tilt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">(Tech Industry Leadership Talks)</a>, to fill this gap.
The Full Crew podcast features the leading voices in tech who discuss the hottest topics in the media for the industry and provide candid first impressions of those stories. The Full TILT podcast focuses on perspectives from tech sector leaders who give viewers an intimate look at the influences in their lives that helped to inform the leadership strategies they currently use to build the products, teams and cultures that shape their companies.
Our Full Crew live from event show floors also arose in 2022 and at Comm UAV. At that show, on the fly, a rep for <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HzyNPZVdH0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IdeaForge asked us to interview the team&rsquo;s leaders from their booth</a>. This first foray into live event streams spun off an entirely new line of effort (&ldquo;Full Crew Live&rdquo;) which continues, like our social hours, to snowball. These event streams are of our most watched shows. For example, our recent <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.youtube.com/live/YSxkNS2rxXU" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stream from the FAA Drone &amp; AAM Symposium</a>, sponsored by <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://airspacelink.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Airspace Link</a>, has garnered almost 600 views just on <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/dawnzoldi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">my LinkedIn</a> and keeps growing.
At CUAV Expo, expect to find us propped up somewhere on the show floor, with laptop and halo light, interviewing a slew of industry stalwarts and newcomers including: Leica Geospatial, Airspace Link, Sagetech Avionics, Black Swift Technologies, VOTIX, USI, M&amp;R Environmental, Grand Sky and likely some surprise guests. Our stream sponsors, UAS Strategic (<a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/zevnadler/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Zev Nadler</a>) and Clarify Consulting (<a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/danieldfuller/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dan Fuller</a>) have made this particular stream possible.
<h5>Over the Horizon</h5>
What&rsquo;s next after CUAV Expo? Beyond September, check out our upcoming monthly newscasts (September is EV Month) and event streams (next up: IAM Madrid thanks to <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://truweathersolutions.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TruWeather Solutions</a> and then UAS Summit in Grand Forks with <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://grandskynd.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Grand Sky</a>).
As for 2025, not only will this be a huge year for the industry (my prediction), it also marks &ldquo;Year 5&rdquo; for my company. To celebrate this milestone and continue adding value, we plan to launch a new digital media platform, &ldquo;Autonomy Global&rdquo; (AG) on January 1st (The Droning Company will be a Media Partner of AG).
